About

Does thinking define us (cogito, ergo sum) or is it the thing that, like they teach in meditation classes, keeps us from experiencing the moment? Shall we contemplate that?

This blog is my place to record the hows, and whys, and results, of living a more thoughtful life as a citizen of a planet that seems to be spinning wildly off its axis.

Sometimes I write about race, from the perspective of white intersectional feminism. My comments are in no way whatsoever a substitute for learning directly from women of color; instead they are a meta-discourse about the ways white people learn and interact with anti-racism.

Sometimes I write about American politics, from the perspective of someone who was always a Democrat in a red state and is currently out of the country for a few years.

Sometimes I write about Zen Buddhism, from the perspective of a learner.

Sometimes I return to my blog-y roots and write about knitting and sewing, from the perspective of someone who is deeply uncomfortable with the performative, consumerist project that crafting has become.

Most often I write about books and art.
